Movie Review: The Simpsons

January 3, 2008

simpsons_final_poster.png

Let’s face it. Everybody knows The Simpsons. While everybody may not watch, or appreciate for that matter, their stylistic approach to humor, many do. I for one, appreciate the show, and the jam-packed humor inside of it.

Recently, I finally got my hands on their feature motion picture. There is so much I can say about this movie, I don’t know where to start. However, rest assured that there will be no spoilers in this post, it will merely be my opinion on the movie.

The Simpsons Movie, combines slapstick humor and meaningful content fairly well. It weighs a bit more on the humor side, as any Simpsons media does. The movie has good animation, great voice acting, and some hilarious content. Homer bringing home a pig is absolutely priceless. There is definitely heavy symbolism in the movie, which only enhances the experience. Now let me warn you, there is a brief scene of nudity in this movie. Yes, nudity in an animated movie, yet alone The Simpsons. But nonetheless, they managed to make a joke of the scene. This was really the only downfall to the movie in my opinion. I feel that this could have been left out, with other more meaningful content put in its place. This is a movie, which I feel I can watch a few times, then never have a need to see it again. It is not an epic movie of all time, and not one that I will want to watch over and over again.

My Rating

The hilarity in this movie definitely deserves a 5/5. However, due to the slight lack of meaningful content, in comparison to the humor, I rate this movie:

Overall
4 / 5

I do however recommend this movie to you. If you enjoy the type of humor which The Simpsons bring, then this movie will not let you down. I will say though, it may be worth it to rent the movie than to buy it, due to the lack of re-watchability.

Quad-Core Rig

January 2, 2008

Are you in the market for a new computer? If you are, there is a great deal on with Dell. Top of the line performance for a reasonable cost. Let me tell you a bit about this machine. First and foremost, it has FOUR processors! That’s right, four. Average computers nowadays have either one or two processors. Having four processors right now is a bit of an overkill, but will be crazy fast and (hopefully) last you for years to come. Along with the four processors comes three gigabytes of RAM. This ensures that you have the ability to run multiple applications at the same time. Next is the hard drive. It comes with a very large 320 gigabyte hard drive. That means this drive can hold:

-127 two-hour DVD-quality movies or
- 450 hours of VHS-quality video or
- 265 days of around-the-clock MP3 audio or
- 112,500 vivid digital photos or
- 640 action-packed games!

Keep in mind that it is a Dell. It is completely customizable on the website. This will either lower, or greaten the cost of the machine.

Having this monster as a rig, will ensure any average consumer maximal output for minimal cost. Definitely the best bang for your buck.

The Vii

January 2, 2008

Alright, I find this video absolutely hilarious. If you are a techy person, you will probably laugh with me. If not, then you may think this video is not so funny. Now one thing to keep in mind. This is not the well-known Nintendo Wii. This is simply some rip off of it.

Nonetheless, if you are looking for a good laugh, see what happens when these guys open up:

TED

January 2, 2008

The quality of a college education available on one website.

I recently stumbled upon a website, called “TED”. I am overjoyed to be able to share it with you. This website seems to be a collection of highly intellectual people, presenting topics. Now I believe, there is something like an annual “TED” meeting. Thankfully, there are videos of presentations available for free online, for your convenience.

This video seems to be one of the best, which I can find on the site. The description of this video, taken from the site is as follows.

“In a wide-ranging talk, Vilayanur Ramachandran explores how brain damage can reveal the connection between the internal structures of the brain and the corresponding functions of the mind. He talks about phantom limb pain, synesthesia (when people hear color or smell sounds), and the Capgras delusion, when brain-damaged people believe their closest friends and family have been replaced with imposters.”

This video is definitely worth your time. The presentation is superb. I highly recommend that you check this video out, and the site as a whole.

H.P. Lovecraft & Cthulhu

January 2, 2008

Cthulhu. Known by many geeks as a dark mythical monster, roaming the realms of horror. Although Cthulhu is well known, many do not know the creator, or the significance of said monster.

Let’s begin with the author. H.P. Lovecraft, is a horror writer like non-other. He makes Stephen King look like child’s play. I deeply advise you not to read Lovecraft, if you are not one for real horror. A vast number of his works can be read on the internet. If you enjoy these, I advise you to purchase a book, with a plethora of his stories in it. Online, this could be found at a store, such as Amazon. Although, if you are not one to purchase novelty, the well-known Cthulhu can be found here, in: The Call of Cthuhlu.

Equally important, there is media today which have a Lovecraftian influence. One example of this, is a game called: Eternal Darkness. This is available for the Nintendo Gamecube. The dark, melancholy game feels like it could have been created right out of a Lovecraft short story.

Cthulhu deserves respect. Not necessarily, for what it is, but for who created it. So if you’ve never heard of Cthulhu, or Lovecraft, check them out!

My thoughts overall:

If you are a fan of horror, or are looking to try something new, definitely read up on H.P. Lovecraft. I will state again, his stories are not for the faint at heart. But hey, life is full of challenges. Surviving of one of his stories, just might be one of them.

About the Author.

December 27, 2007

Greetings everyone,

This blog is going to be written solely by myself. I am generally going to write about things that interest me, review many types of media, and occasionally throw in a curve ball post. That being said, I think I should tell you a few things that interest me, most of which are hobbies.

I have a passion for:

Anime, Manga, Comics, Gaming, Computers, Sports, and technology in general. Many of my posts will be containing one, if not more, of these passions. Media types which I may review on include: Movies, Games, Novels, plus some.

If you have any interests similar to my own, or enjoy lorem ipsum once in a while, then I would love for you to read my blog.

On a side note, I am currently researching webhosts, to create my own site [with a blog of course!]. If you have any experience in this market, and could recommend some webhosts, it would be greatly appreciated. As of now, easyCGI is looking pretty good.

I am thrilled to begin my blogging journey, and hope you continue to read on!
